Our roof extension is still water tight and holding strong. Rust on the roof and drip rails should be addressed. This heavy steel frame reinforces the roof supports the optional bed and is the base for the elevating assembly. Once the top is installed it will be impossible to get rid of any rust along that band because it will be covered by the high top flange so if rust is a concern for you get rid of it prior to the high top.

Any roof racks or other accessories must be removed from the roof. The front roof van rib over the cab and the rear rib are not removed. Lot s of room in the loft even with the sleeping platform in place. Once the top is in place it is simply a matter of bolting it onto the van.

The high top will sit on a 4 band around the perimeter of the original roof. Can a roof rack be installed. I think that would give an extra bit of snugness to that joint and add a bit of waterproofing. First step though is finding a suitable top.

Mini van tops from 12 and above work great with side and rear handicap lifts. Their minivan tops are one piece and add about 5. I think the only thing i would have done different would be to use dicor butyl tape along the bottom of the extension where wood meets steel.
